CENTRAL COAST SOARING CLUB
We fly gliders on the Central Coast of NSW
TRY GLIDING - IT'S FUN!

Learn to fly with us
You will never forget your first solo flight
How does it relate to power flying?
Gliders are just another aircraft - without the engine. They have the same aerodynamic controls - plus a set of air brakes (not found on power aircraft except for high-performance jets).

They are substantially more efficient in their aerodynamic design than most power aircraft - hence the requirement for air brakes. The best gliders have a "glide ratio" of well up to 60:1 compared to a standard power aircraft of about 7:1 - that is about 8 times more efficient!
Our training gliders have the best glide ratio of about 27:1 and 34:1, so if you are at a height of 1 Km above your decision height for landing, you could fly 27 Kms.

How do I learn?
Our qualified Instructors proivde training all the way from ab initio level. In addition to flying training, this also includes theory lessons and time in our flight sim
Instruction is free with all our Instructors providing their time and services voluntarily.
To commence learning to fly with us, you willl need to:
a) Join our Club

b) Join the Gliding Australia

Before taking these steps, we recommend you visit the Club, get a feel for how we operate and take an Air Experience Flight.
How much does it cost?
Gliders are comparitively low cost to run due to the absence of an engine and the expense of fuel.
Learning at Central Coast Soaring Club is less expensive than elsewhere as we winch launch rather than aerotowing. Once you join the Club, you will be able to use any of the aircraft that you are trained to operate.

You can find our list of fees and charges on the Fees Page.

BASIC AB INTIO TRAINING UP TO
GLIDER PILOT CERTIFICATE
The Central Coast Soaring Club has a strong history in pilot training. Our instructors and our fleet have the ability to take you from your first flight through to Glider Pilot Certificate (which is the gliding equivelent of a Private Pilot's Licence).
Many of our students have built on the skills and abilities learnt at our Club and become professional pilots with the Air Force or major Airlines

CROSS COUNTRY/ADVANCED TRAINING
Our Fleet includes a range of basic and intermediate tow seat trainers, single seaters and advanced two seat gliders.
We therefore have the ability for you to learn advanced flying skills such as doing cross country flights.
Additionally our Club periodically takes the aircraft away and goes on camps around NSW. These are a great opportunity to mix with other Clubs, enjoy new locations and obtain new skills
